About us:

Glitch Productions is an independent animation studio based in Australia making original, long form animated shows distributed on Youtube. Our channel has over 18 million subscribers, tens of millions of views per episode and is still growing strong. Our studio is filled with incredibly talented and passionate artists that are determined to change the way animation is produced and treated in the industry. Our biggest IP; Digital Circus, has amassed over 400 million views on the pilot alone and we have a lot more still to come.

Role Information:

We're looking for an experienced Creative Director to join our Merch & Consumer Products team and lead the creative direction of our physical merchandise portfolio across our franchise IPs.

This person will own the creative vision within an established product portfolio - defining the visual direction, setting the aesthetic standards, and ensuring every product lands true to each brand. They'll work across a defined range of physical goods such as plush, collectables, accessories, and apparel, making key decisions about how each category comes to life visually and what within it deserves focus and prioritisation.

This visually directive role calls for a merchandise-first thinker with a deep understanding of fan desire and core content. They must be equally capable of leading a team, providing clear feedback, and driving the delivery of commercially successful, brand-aligned physical goods.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the product development, concept, design and sampling of merchandise across a variety of product categories
  • Ideate, concept and direct illustrations and graphic designs for merchandise & packaging. Ensuring strong colour theory, brand consistency, and visual quality are upheld across all products.
  • Develop on-brand art styles for new products across each respective IP, ensuring visual consistency across artists.
  • Ideate and select product categories that best appeal to the target audience of each IP
  • Provide directive & feedback to the product development team on briefs, new product ideas, and artstyle pitches
  • Determine which characters, themes, and moments from IP fit best across each product line - and translating these into strong designs.
  • Provide feedback to the consumer product’s art and development team across the entire merchandise production process.
  • Understand each IP's audience demographics and visual designs that resonate with them.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Brand, Licensing, Marketing, and Events teams to ensure creative direction is aligned with broader business campaigns and provide clear, decisive feedback to external partners on product ideation, development, and execution.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in a Creative Director or senior leadership role focused on physical consumer products or merchandise - ideally within entertainment, gaming, or licensed IP environments.
  • Strong understanding of the technical and production limitations of each product category and works creatively within those constraints to arrive at designs that are both visually strong and commercially viable.
  • A sharp instinct for visual prioritisation within a defined product range - knowing which creative directions to focus on, which to refine, and which to set aside based on brand alignment and fan appeal.
  • Demonstrable experience leading a creative team - setting clear visual direction, providing strong and constructive feedback.
  • Hands-on illustrative skill and the ability to credibly direct illustrative art and define artstyles - you don't need to be a full-time illustrator, but you must understand what great illustration looks like and be able to guide artists with authority and specificity.
  • A strong eye for colour theory and a thorough understanding of how it applies to physical merchandise - ensuring products are visually compelling, shelf-ready, and true to the brand.
  • The ability to communicate creative vision clearly and confidently to both creative and commercial stakeholders.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with graphic design - not essential, but a working knowledge of design principles for print and physical product is a definite plus.
  • An understanding of or genuine interest in animation, gaming, and/or ‘internet nerd’ culture - you get our audience because you’re part of it (or close to it).
  • Extremely organised with a strong work ethic and the ability to manage multiple product lines and priorities simultaneously.
  • Positive, go-getter attitude with a genuine passion for making great products that fans love.

What we offer:

  • A competitive starting salary with reviews every 6 months.
  • A flexible work arrangement and schedule, with options for work from home and flexi-hours.
  • A casual and fun office environment where individual input is valued.
  • Regular work functions and free entry to conventions and events.
  • Relocation assistance for workers wishing to move to Sydney.
  • Close to public transport in the heart of Parramatta and Melbourne CBD.
  • Regular company breakfasts/lunches.
  • A diverse team that values independent input and career development.
