Glitch Productions is an independent animation studio based in Australia making original, long form animated shows distributed on Youtube. Our channel has over 18 million subscribers, tens of millions of views per episode and is still growing strong. Our studio is filled with incredibly talented and passionate artists that are determined to change the way animation is produced and treated in the industry. Our biggest IP; Digital Circus, has amassed over 350 million views on the pilot alone and we have a lot more still to come.
Role Information:
We are seeking a skilled Color Artist to define the visual atmosphere and mood of our illustrations. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our Art Director and 2D Line Artists. Your main responsibility will be to establish color keys and deliver beautifully rendered final illustrations of characters and environments across various established Glitch IPs.
This is a remote, freelance position with an initial 3-month test period. Ongoing arrangements are available depending on your profile.
Primary Duties
- Color Key Development: Create color keys to define lighting, atmosphere, palette, and mood based on thumbnails and show references.
- Final Rendering: Translate approved color keys into fully rendered final artwork using clean line art files.
- Style Consistency: Maintain strict adherence to the project’s established art style and visual guidelines.
- Iterative Polish: Implement feedback from Art Directors constructively to meet high-quality production standards.
- File Management: Prepare clean, organised, and properly structured digital files ready for the final production pipeline.
Secondary Duties
- Concept Support: Produce initial thumbnails and composition proposals to assist the art direction team when required.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Color & Lighting Theory: Strong professional proficiency in color theory, environmental lighting, and digital rendering techniques.
- Stylistic Versatility: Comfort executing various rendering styles, ranging from detailed painterly finishes to clean cell-shading.
- Narrative Focus: Proven ability to convey emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling intent through lighting and color choices.
- Composition & Clarity: Deep understanding of color composition and visual hierarchy to maintain readability in complex illustrations.
- Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency with Adobe Photoshop.
- Workflow Discipline: Ability to adapt smoothly to an established studio pipeline and implementation process.
- Language: Professional working proficiency in written and spoken English.
Bonus Skills
- Understanding of print workflows, technical specifications, and production constraints.
- Familiarity with project management and studio organisation tools (e.g., Airtable).
